Writer’s Body

Ahhh…the dreaded (and painful) writer’s body! From a smooshed toosh, to aching wrists Β and stiff shoulder blades, typing for extended periods of time is a sure way to punish your muscles.

With NaNoWriMo approaching, our spine health will take a beating, as will our brains, and eyes, and sanity. Carving out time to stretch is a great way to counteract this struggle. Below you’ll find my find my favorite stretching routines to promote circulation, loosen stiff muscles, and calm an anxious mind.

Routine 1: Perfect for people who claim they don’t have time to stretch. It takes 5 minutes. Shut down the Instagram app, quit making excuses, and do it. Your body will thank you, and you’ll find your following minutes so productive it makes up for the break.

Routine 2: A deep, slow, meditative yoga flow for before bed, when you want to quiet your mind and get ready for restorative slumber. Even doing this routine once per week boasts huge benefits.

Routine 3: Quick, no-nonsense, and full body, this is a great routine to squeeze in before you hop in the shower and start your day.

Best of luck frenzied writers. Remember, physical health is important, and taking care of our bodies is a great way to ensure we have the privilege to keep telling our stories.
